This website is a new resource for for Karen speaking immigrants and their ESL teachers.
It offers an interactive course of vocabulary study similar to that found in Rosetta Stone and Duolingo. However with this course, students have control on how fast material is presented and can even edit or add material of their own.
Karen teachers and students will have the opportunity to download free decks of computerized flash cards written in both English and Karen, spoken in both English and Karen, with pictures to help conceptualize the meaning of each pair of equivalent words. One thousand English words were chosen using the Corpus of Contemporary American English with additional recommendations from G Wyner's Book "Fluent Forever."
The following two videos explain the merits and use of both paper and computerized flash cards.
Paper and Pencil Flashcards
Computerized Flashcards using Anki software
Anki is a program which makes remembering things easy. Because it's a lot more efficient than traditional study methods, you can either greatly decrease your time spent studying, or greatly increase the amount you learn.
